Creating a Critical New Solution

In 2010, Jean founded MarketSmiths®, a national agency dedicated to Copywriting for Humans®. In 2012, at TEDx Gramercy, Jean declared the War on Bland™ – launching a campaign to change corporate copy forever.

Today, MarketSmiths is a successful copywriting services provider with 16+ writers, with clients like The Loews Group, LinkedIn, Pearson Education, Pfizer, and The Carlyle Group. The company specializes in Website Copywriting and Content Marketing.

Jean Tang and I both hail from the same alma mater – Cornell. Her perspectives as both a service provider and business owner offer up a unique combo. She understands deeply what a healthy work culture looks like, even for a small business trying to get off the ground.
David Schein TEND Strategic Partners
To help brands, companies and businesses enhance their copy, Tang developed a formula for copywriters. One of the most important steps is to challenge your own perspective of your company and yourself.

Every day, I interview at least one client who professes not to know what to write—yet knows exactly what to say. My clients’ voices are nearly always lucid and intelligent and ripe and intact. Yet—nearly without exception—they demur when it comes to written content.

Great White Cat

Jean lives in Brooklyn with her boyfriend and her 10-year old, 15-pound Himalayan cat, Jabberwocky. He (Jabberwocky) likes Mrs. Paulson’s Chicken Dinner, catnip, fresh grass, and breathing lots of outdoor air.

The boyfriend, Asher, is a 6’3″ tall marketing strategist with his own company, and a penchant for writing horror fiction, dancing, boxing, and hiking. He has a little dog who is 1/3 the size of Jabberwocky, so the size differential is striking. Jabberwocky likes the man well enough, as long as the chicken is flowing, but hasn’t yet decided on a useful purpose for the dog.
